Kanye West has sparked controversy by publicly criticizing Kendrick Lamar following the latter’s contributions to Playboi Carti’s new album, Music, released on March 14th. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Kanye expressed his mixed feelings about the album while praising standout tracks like “Crank” and “I Seeeeee You Baby Boi.” However, his comments quickly turned sour when he addressed Kendrick’s involvement.
In a blunt statement, Kanye wrote, “I DONT LIKE KENDRICK LAMAR’S MUSIC. HE RAPS VERY GOOD BUT I DIDN’T NEED TO HEAR HIM ON CARTI ALBUM.” The tweet drew reactions from fans, some of whom echoed Kanye’s sentiments, reinforcing his opinion with comments like, “YOU’RE THE REALEST N*GGA ON EARTH” and “FIRST GOOD TAKE IN A MIN LMAOO.”
Despite his criticism, Kanye had previously praised Kendrick for his Super Bowl halftime performance, calling it the best since the early 1990s. He expressed admiration for Kendrick’s vocal control and the overall simplicity and effectiveness of the show, contrasting his recent comments about Kendrick’s music.
Rumors had circulated that Kanye produced the track “Good Credit,” but a representative for Playboi Carti clarified that Kanye did not contribute to the song.
This latest exchange adds another layer to the complex relationship between the two artists, who collaborated on the 2016 track “No More Parties in LA.” While Kanye’s remarks may surprise some, they highlight the ongoing dynamics within the hip hop community as artists navigate their artistic differences.
