In a surprising turn of events, R. Kelly is fighting for his release from federal prison, alleging that members of the Aryan Brotherhood were recruited by prison officials to murder him. According to an emergency motion obtained by AllHipHop, Kelly’s legal team claims that Bureau of Prisons (BOP) officials at FCI Butner in North Carolina orchestrated a plot to have him killed while he serves his 30-year sentence for federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges.
Attorney Beau B. Brindley stated that a man named Mikeal Glenn Stine, who was transferred to Butner, was tasked with killing Kelly. However, Stine reportedly backed out at the last moment and disclosed the plot to Kelly, informing him of the imminent danger to his life. “He was prepared to carry out the execution… but decided not to carry out his order,” Brindley explained. Stine, who is terminally ill, chose instead to expose the alleged conspiracy involving BOP officials.
The motion also alleges that another Aryan Brotherhood member, David Keith Harris, was approached by prison staff and instructed to poison Kelly. Both Stine and Harris have expressed their willingness to testify and submit to polygraph tests regarding their claims.
Additionally, the motion accuses federal prosecutors and prison staff of violating Kelly’s constitutional rights by unlawfully accessing his private legal communications. It is alleged that a BOP officer named Tawana Ingraham illegally accessed Kelly’s emails and phone calls, which were then used to manipulate witnesses against him. An inmate who previously shared a cell with Kelly also confessed to stealing his legal mail at the request of a federal prosecutor.
Following these revelations, Kelly’s attorneys argue that the combination of credible threats to his life and alleged government misconduct warrant his release to home confinement while he challenges his convictions.
As of now, R. Kelly remains incarcerated at FCI Butner, and the court has yet to rule on the emergency motion.
