Mavado and IWaata are “Ready Fi Dem” in latest video

It’s been sometime since Mavado delivered his last body of work Life of the Gully, a seven-track EP released in conjunction with DJ Frass Records. That isn’t to say the Jamaican icon hasn’t continued to bless his fans with music — the past several years have seen the legendary artist treat us to top tier cuts like “Ain’t Going Back Broke” with Future and Ace Hood, “Ghetto Bible,” “Progress,” “Dress to Impress,” Enemies,” “I’m Sanctify” with Sean Paul, “Never Give Up,” and “Enemy Lines.”

Last week, Mavado returned with a new single titled “Ready Fi Dem,” a Mansion Records-backed release that sees him alongside rising reggae star IWaata. The Troyton Rami-produced cut sees the artists delivering a dark, direct message to all enemies:

“Attack dem like a 90’s criminal, body decompose, nah get funeral, rapid up eh glock inna ya face, then me kill ya gyal, hell haffi raise from yuh, get eh gad ignorant … inna bwoy face, a suh me push shot inna bwoy face, head full up a empty space, mosquito brain splash pon eh wall an paste, inna bwoy face, dem know me a real killa…”

Quickly proving to be quite the multi-talent, Rami also directed the accompanying clip for “Ready Fi Dem,” which effortlessly matches the unapologetically violent theme of the song. Viewers can see a couple of masked men dispatching unfortunate individuals in the street, all while the artists perform amongst high-end cars, jewelry, women, and plenty of ammunition.

Aside from his collaboration, newcomer IWaata has been spending the current year keeping his fans well-fed with loose singles like “Outaada,” “Nine Night,” “Ghost Town,” “Money Ambassador,” “Shame Dem,” and “Banga.” Hopefully, both he and Mavado plan to release their next albums sometime in the near future.

In the meantime, press play on the visual for “Ready Fi Dem” below.
