NEW YORK MUSICIAN MURDERED IN HUDSON VALLEY

A local musician was murdered in the Hudson Valley. His family hopes to use his death to help out a New York animal shelter.

New York State Police announced the arrest of an Ulster County man who’s accused of murder. 26-year-old Walter D. Post Jr from the town of Shawangunk was charged on Tuesday. Post was remanded to Ulster County Jail.

On Tuesday around 5 a.m., New York State Police from the Ellenville barracks responded to reports of a shooting. Police were told someone was shot on Vinegar Hill Road in the town of Shawangunk.

Upon arrival, troopers located the victim deceased outside of a home on Vinegar Hill Road.

Police later identified the victim as 29-year-old Michael A. Hankins of Woodridge.

Hankins was born in Queens but was a longtime resident of the Hudson Valley, his obituary states.

He enjoyed his work as a tattoo artist and musician.

Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Harris Funeral Home in Liberty. His family is using his death to help out a local animal shelter.

A preliminary investigation led to the arrest of Post. He was charged with second-degree murder, a felony. Police did not release a motive or state how the investigation led to the arrest.

The investigation into the murder is ongoing.
