NEW YORK MUSICIAN MURDERED IN HUDSON VALLEY OVER GIRL, POLICE SAY

A local musician was murdered in the Hudson Valley. Officials say it was over a girl.

Last week, New York State Police announced the arrest of a Hudson Valley man who’s accused of murder. 26-year-old Walter D. Post Jr from Pine Bush was charged last Tuesday. Post was remanded to Ulster County Jail.

New York State Police from the Ellenville barracks responded to reports of a shooting on Vinegar Hill Road in the town of Shawangunk.

Upon arrival, troopers located the 29-year-old Michael A. Hankins of Woodridge dead outside of a home on Vinegar Hill Road.

On Thursday, a grand jury voted on an indictment charging Post with second-degree murder.

Police allege Post stalked his ex-girlfriend at her home in Ulster County. Hankins, a friend of his ex-girlfriend, was visiting the unnamed woman.

Post is accused of disabling Hankins car. Hankins left the woman’s home around 1 a.m. but stopped a short distance on Vinegar Hill Road and was shot several times at close range outside his car, officials say.

Hankins was a longtime resident of the Hudson Valley, his obituary states. He was born in Queens.

He enjoyed his work as a tattoo artist and musician.

Visitation was held last week in the Harris Funeral Home in Liberty. His family is using his death to help out a local animal shelter.

Memorial contributions in Michael’s name may be made to Catskill Animal Rescue, Inc. 263 Old Monticello Road, Ferndale, NY 12734.
