NEW YORK — The NYPD is searching for six suspects who made off with about 400 bullet proof vests that were bound for Ukraine.
The thieves stole the vests from the headquarters of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America at 2nd Avenue near E 13 Street in Manhattan around 2 p.m. on March 15, according to police.
Local law enforcement donated the vests to aid Ukrainian soldiers in their fight against the Russian invasion.
The suspects hauled off the protective equipment in trash bags and loaded them into three vehicles that then fled into Brooklyn, officials said.
No one was injured during the heist.
The NYPD is asking anyone with information on the burglary to contact the CrimeStoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Anonymous tips can also be submitted on the CrimeStoppers website or on Twitter @NYPDTips.
