SZA BREAKS MARY J. BLIGE’S ALMOST 20-YEAR CHART RECORD AS ‘SOS’ GOES DOUBLE PLATINUM

SZA has earned another accolade thanks to her second studio album, SOS, which has gone double platinum and broken Mary J. Blige‘s almost 20-year chart record.

The TDE singer’s success with SOS has demonstrated her staying power and catapulted her to the pinnacle of her career, as well as setting a new standard in modern R&B. Now, the 33-year-old singer can add another accolade to her already growing resume

With its 16th consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, SZA’s “Kill Bill” is the longest-running No. 1 single for a female solo artist — the record was previously held by Mary J. Blige’s 2006 smash hit “Be Without You,” from her seventh studio album, The Breakthrough.

Following its release, “Be Without You” spent 15 weeks atop the Billboard 200 chart.

Although SZA has already seen major success with this album, it doesn’t stop there. SOS has recently achieved double platinum status, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

From wrapping up her cross-country SOS tour, to partnering with brands such as SKIMS, for its latest campaign, SKIMS Fits Everyone, the New Jersey native is having quite a year.

Last month, the shapewear brand took to Instagram to unveil the Grammy-Award winning singer-songwriter as the face of its latest campaign. A sultry SZA can be seen in photos for the campaign wearing buttery earth tone pieces from the underwear collection, the focus of which is body inclusivity.

“I’m excited to be in SKIMS’ latest Fits Everybody underwear campaign and to align myself with a brand that strives to make women feel both comfortable and sexy,” SZA said in a statement.

Kim Kardashian, co-founder of SKIMS, said in a statement that SZA was chosen for her “honesty, confidence and dynamic energy.”

“She’s truly the woman of the moment, and I’m so honored for her to be featured in SKIMS’ latest campaign,” she continued.

Jens Grede, Co-Founder and CEO of SKIMS, added: “SZA is a defining voice in popular culture today, a multifaceted artist who’s an inspiration to women everywhere. We are thrilled to spotlight SZA in this campaign as we believe she embodies the values of SKIMS.”

This wasn’t the first time SZA has put her confidence on full display. While accepting her award for Billboard’s Woman of the Year for 2023, she delivered a motivational speech about the importance of self-acceptance.

“There’s so many women in this room right now that I respect so deeply,” she said. “This could have been any of us in this room and whether it’s Lana Del Rey or Olivia Rodrigo or Chlöe [Bailey] or Doechii who’s a fucking star or Latto or even Coi [Leray], my very own Jersey baby … I just, I really think sometimes there’s a misconception that like, everybody always feels like that girl. Like, ‘Oh I know I’m that bitch and I have a lot of confidence.’ And I feel like it’s okay to not be that person all the time.”

She continued: “And I used to feel like I didn’t belong because I don’t always feel like that but I realized that the key is to stay open and available for whatever the universe or God wants to do with your life. And it’s like even when you don’t know who you are or you may not see – I don’t know why I’m 10 weeks on Billboard. I’m grateful!”
