Kid Cudi has been chosen as one of the stars of a new spin-off series based on the popular video game-turned-movie franchise Sonic The Hedgehog.
Deadline reports that Paramount+ has greenlit a new series, titled Knuckles that will follow the popular character of the same name on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior
Taking to Instagram on Monday (April 17) to share the news, Kid Cudi posted a screenshot of the Deadline story along with the caption: “When life has more dreams for you to fulfill [happy emoji] its lit #knuckles @paramountplus.”
He also shared a photograph on Twitter of his cat Sweets playing with a stuffed toy version of Knuckles. “Sweets is happy and excited about the Knuckles show,” Cudi wrote.
Along with Kid Cudi (real name Scott Mescudi), Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, Ellie Taylor have also joined the cast. Idris Elba will also return to reprise role as Knuckles.
In addition, Tika Sumpter will guest star, reprising her role as Maddie.
Currently in production, the series takes place between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 — the new project marks the next installment in the hit franchise, slated for release on December 20, 2024.
The key creative team from the previous films are returning for the series, including Jeff Fowler, the films’ director, who is directing the pilot episode, as well as Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, John Whittington and Toru Nakahara, who serve as executive producers on the series. Idris Elba also serves as executive producer.
In other Kid Cudi news, he along with Future and Playboi Carti have been tapped to headline the fifth installment of Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash Festival.
The festival is set to invade Chicago’s Seatgeek Stadium for the weekend of June 23 through June 25 and tickets are now on sale on the Summer Smash Festival’s website.
The rest of the lineup includes the likes of Lil Uzi Vert, Ice Spice, Trippie Redd, Vince Staples, GloRilla, Central Cee, $UICIDEBOY$, Ski Mask The Slump God, Lucki, G Herbo, Cordae and more.
There will also be a joint set from Lil Pump and Smokepurpp, and there’s even a special guest spot reserved for an unnamed artist
