TEHACHAPI, CA – Tory Lanez has been moved to a super-maximum security prison in California following a stint at North Kern State Prison.
According to court reporter Meghann Cuniff, Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson) was recently transferred to the California Correctional Institute in Tehachapi, California
Reports emerged earlier this week that Lanez had been moved to general population at North Kern, but Cuniff explained on Friday (October 13) that was not the case.
“Just FYI because people are asking, this isn’t true,” she wrote on X in response to a post claiming that the rapper had been placed in gen pop.
Tory Lanez was moved to the California Correctional Institute, a state supermax prison that is not North Kern State Prison. Reports that Lanez was moved to general population at North Kern are false.”
She added: “California Correctional Institute is in Tehachapi, about 85 miles southeast of Kern. It’s designated as a supermax prison, so ‘general population’ there is not quite the same as general population elsewhere.”
Tory Lanez’s legal team had previously pushed for him to be placed in gen pop at North Kern so he could have a “normal” prison experience where he could interact with other inmates in the yard
Reports also recently emerged that Lanez was living the life of a “loner” behind bars due to him being confined to “Administrative Segregation” as a result of his celebrity status.
Tory, who was convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the feet in July 2020, continues to fight the 10-year prison sentence that he was handed this past summer. Earlier this week, his lawyers filed a new motion for bail as they work on their appeal.
However, Meghann Cuniff speculated that the 31-year-old will not be granted bail since the motion is similar to the one that was rejected last month.
“The arguments are nearly identical to the motion Judge Herriford rejected at the Sept. 14 hearing in LA (the one where Lanez called me a googly eyed bitch), including the forgoing of any mention of the rehab pushed at sentencing,” she wrote on X.
In his bail motion, Lanez didn’t mention residential rehab for the alcoholism that he had previously copped to, but instead requested to rent an “exotic home” in Los Angeles under house arrest.
