21 Savage‘s contributions to his hometown of Atlanta have been recognized by local government officials for the second time in as many years.
As of this past weekend, December 10 has been proclaimed “21 Savage Appreciation Day” in Fulton County by the county’s Board Of Commissioners. Along with the proclamation, the British-born rapper was also recognized as and honored as a recipient of the county’s Carry The Torch Award.
In a video shared by TikTok user ZaireThinker, 21 can be seen standing to the side as Commissioner Natalie Hall reads off the proclamation. After handing the award to the rapper, Hall gets a laugh out of the audience by sharing that he had quietly asked her if he could actually keep it. She then proceeds to give him the floor.
“Y’all know I”m shy right? So I wrote something on my phone,” he starts out. “First I wanna thank everybody for coming out, showing y’all support. Shout out to my mama, I love you. I’m honored to receive this year’s Carry The Torch Award.”
He adds: “I want the kids to feel empowered, and I hope I can be that inspiration for them. I didn’t grow up with much and I paved my own path. And I’m glad to be able to give back with my platform. Especially with my financial literacy program.”
This latest recognition in his adopted hometown comes almost exactly a year after December 21 was declared to be 21 Savage Day in Georgia by State Representative Billy Mitchell.
On December 21, 2022, 21 and his Leading By Example Foundation put on their fourth annual Grant-A-Wish event, where they gifted 100 local parents and their children toys and food for the Christmas season.
At the event, the Savage Mode II rapper was awarded his own day by State Representative Billy Mitchell. A proclamation ceremony was held at the Christmas giveaway to officially declare December 21 as “21 Savage Day.”
21 was honored for his humanitarian efforts in his community, such as the 21 Savage Bank Account campaign, which aims to encourage students to understand the basics of financial literacy and saving money for college. 21 $1,000 scholarships were handed out to get the initiative off the ground.
Just as he has kicked off the month of December with celebrations in Atlanta, 21 Savage closed out the month of November with a long-awaited homecoming in London.
As he prepared for his first-ever headlining shows in London footage surfaced of 21 whipping some motorcycles while filming an upcoming music video in South London’s Brixton district. It’s unclear what song Savage was shooting the visual to but he’s got a biker gang riding around Brixton with him.
On November 30, the Slaughter Gang rapper sold out the O2 Arena for securing permanent citizenship in the United States earlier this year, allowing him to travel freely outside the country again. The trip marked Her Loss co-creator’s first time back in London in over two decades.
It was a big win for the Atlanta rap star considering his long-running legal battle with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in which he was accused of overstaying his welcome after arriving in the country with his mother at the age of seven.
In addition to running through his own catalog of hits including “Runnin,’” “Glock In My Lap” and “Bank Account,” as well as collaborations with Drake, Travis Scott and Future, 21 Savage brought out London’s own J Hus, who performed “Man Don’t Dance,” and Central Cee for “Doja Cat.”
Jamaica was in the building too as dancehall star Popcaan also hit the stage as a special guest.
“I can’t believe I just sold out the o21 !!!!!!” 21 wrote on X (formerly Twitter) after the concert. “London I owe yall for eternity !!!!l cench popcaan j hus yall helped me make this night special !!!!”
