Meek Mill has announced plans for the first Dreamchasers compilation album and saluted one of his idols in JAY-Z while doing so.
On Monday (January 8), the Philly rapper took to Instagram to reveal the project and unveil the diamond-studded cover art. “DREAM CHASERS VOL. 1 LA FAMILIA WE GONE SEE,” he captioned the post.
The title appears to be a nod to JAY-Z and Roc-A-Fella’s TheDynasty: Roc La Familia compilation which arrived in 2000.
Meek went on to tag Dreamchasers artists in the post such as Vory, Yung Ro, Diamond Street Keem, Jaylanie and more
Plenty of stars showed love in the comments, including Curren$y who wrote: “Artwork hard.” Others who saluted Meek for leading the DC charge included Jim Jones, Fivio Foreign and Michael Rubin.
However, some fans were looking for another Meek Mill solo project in 2024 before a compilation.
“Dude WE WANT DC5 WTF NOBODY ASKED FOR THIS,” one person wrote, while another chimed in: “Until it drop I don’t wanna believe it
Prior to the compilation announcement, Meek had been dishing out advice on Twitter for his fans. The 36-year-old wants kids to hit the books and utilize school and education as their way out of the streets instead of hustling to survive.
“Being gangsta will get you hurt put in jail or killed …… being smart will get you out of poverty and your family and friends living better,” he wrote. “It’s no comparison, being smart is the only solid way out the trenches… everything else is wide range life risk just to survive!”
Meek Mill also has a new outlook on rap beefs and people think he’s choosing sides in feuds. “I’m too rich to choose side in beefs,” he wrote on Twitter/X. “Real street n-ggas know that! Ima source for the trenches … a source to money… resources … plugs ….”
He continued: “I may post you help your brand! If we don’t have a direct problem don’t even think about what side I’m on ‘I’m on dream chasers’ side.”
The rapper’s last solo album arrived in 2021 with Expensive Pain while he teamed up with Rick Ross for their Too Good To Be True joint project last year.
