According to reports, a 24-year-old individual was shot in the leg on West 112th Street at around 7:15 p.m., prompting a police response that led to Lauper’s arrest. During a canvas for evidence, police officers found Declyn “Dex” Lauper, 26, in possession of a loaded gun in the vicinity. Lauper was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and controlled substance, although he wasn’t charged in connection to the shooting. The investigation continues. The shooting victim, who is in stable condition at Mount Sinai Morningside, was also charged with criminal weapon possession.
Lauper is the only son of the Grammy winning artist and actor David Thornton.
In 2022, he admitted to disorderly conduct after he was arrested in a stolen Mercedes. He entered a no jail plea agreement.
