Diddy Denied Bail—Judge Cites ‘Compelling Evidence of Violence’

As we celebrate 51 years of hip-hop — where it’s all about the knowledge, the culture, and the lifestyle — we’re diving into the latest developments in the case of Sean “Diddy” Combs. Unfortunately, the Bad Boy mogul won’t be home for Thanksgiving this year. A federal judge has denied his latest attempt for bail in his ongoing federal sex trafficking and racketeering case.

On Wednesday, November 27, Judge Arun Subramanian delivered his ruling, highlighting multiple factors leading to his decision. In a detailed five-page order, the judge pointed out Diddy’s violations of Bureau of Prisons rules regarding communications, along with “misrepresentations” made during a recent court hearing concerning evidence found in his jail cell.

The judge expressed serious concerns about Diddy’s potential for witness tampering, specifically referencing his interactions with an escort identified in court documents as “Witness-1.” The prosecution alleges that this witness participated in various “freak-offs” with Diddy. Text messages sent by Diddy to this witness, even on the day she was set to testify before the grand jury, raised red flags for the court. Some of these messages were reportedly deleted, further complicating matters. Diddy’s legal team had previously denied any interference with the grand jury proceedings.

But it’s not just the witness tampering that caught the judge’s attention. A significant portion of Judge Subramanian’s decision focused on Diddy’s history of violence. The judge noted, “There is compelling evidence of Combs’s propensity for violence,” citing a 2016 incident where Diddy assaulted his ex-girlfriend Cassie. Text messages from Cassie after the incident, including statements about having a black eye and bruising, were presented as evidence of this pattern.

As Diddy navigates these serious allegations, he is also appealing his bail status in a different court, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. However, the appeal process is currently paused while the recent bail decision is under consideration.

Diddy’s legal team had put together a proposed bail package worth $50 million, using his Miami Beach mansion as collateral, along with suggestions for house arrest and 24/7 security. However, Judge Subramanian dismissed these ideas, citing concerns that the property’s dock could be problematic. The legal team then pivoted to propose Diddy’s three-bedroom apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side as an alternative.
