HipHopRaisedMeTheBlog.com is excited to share that Fabolous has finally received long-overdue recognition for one of his signature songs. The 2004 hit “Breathe” has officially been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), marking the sale of over one million units.
The announcement was made on November 27, celebrating the enduring impact of the Just Blaze-produced track, which served as the lead single from Fabolous’s album Real Talk. “Breathe” peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in November 2004 and remained on the charts for an impressive 20 weeks. Additionally, it was ranked as the 60th best song by Complex for the decade spanning 2002 to 2012.
In related news, Fabolous has been in the spotlight recently for his comments regarding the upcoming Super Bowl LIX halftime show in New Orleans. Alongside fellow Brooklynite JAY-Z, Fabolous addressed criticism surrounding Kendrick Lamar’s selection to perform. Critics, including Nicki Minaj, Birdman, Juvenile, Cam’ron, and Master P, expressed that Lil Wayne, a New Orleans native, would have been a more suitable choice for the event.
During an Instagram Live session in September, Fabolous shared his thoughts on the controversy, stating, “I do see people blaming it solely on JAY-Z when I don’t think that’s the truth. I think it’s a committee, it’s a board, it’s different people who come into play when decisions like that are made.”
While acknowledging that a performance by Lil Wayne would have been a special moment, Fab suggested that Kendrick Lamar’s recent victory in his feud with Drake may have influenced the decision. “I do think it would’ve been great for Lil Wayne to [headline the Super Bowl halftime show], just because of how much he’s done in the game and how much he’s meant to New Orleans. You never know if he’s going to be included, if that’s something that was discussed behind the scenes.”
Fabolous continued, “I think it was interesting that Kendrick got it after the Drake battle, too. His relevance is really up from that, so that could be something that tipped the scale.”
As Fabolous celebrates this milestone for “Breathe,” it’s clear that both he and the hip-hop community are looking forward to the future while honoring the past.
