HipHopRaisedMeTheBlog.com reports that Drake has come under fire from Charlamagne Tha God regarding his legal actions against Universal Music Group (UMG). During a segment on The Breakfast Club aired on December 2, Charlamagne expressed his views on Drake’s allegations that UMG utilized payola and streaming bots to amplify the popularity of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us,” as well as his claims of defamation stemming from the song’s lyrics.
Charlamagne stated, “I told you Drake was going to sue. He is a multi-billion dollar entity; no multi-billion dollar entity is going to allow you to call him a pedophile or sex offender without taking some form of legal action.” He cautioned that Drake might be opening a Pandora’s box due to the accusations he has made in his own diss tracks. “The person who has the real defamation case here is Kendrick’s partner, Whitney Alford. Drake not only claimed Kendrick was abusive toward her but also insinuated that Kendrick’s business associate, Dave Free, is the real father of one of Kendrick’s children,” he explained.
Charlamagne continued to criticize Drake, calling him the “Donkey of the Day” and labeling him a hypocrite, sore loser, and someone who doesn’t grasp the culture of hip-hop. “There was a time when Drake was the face of every Spotify playlist. Stop acting like you haven’t benefited from label tricks. You’re being a whole ho simply because you lost,” he asserted. “Kendrick Lamar lyrically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally defeated you. If you think this is more than just Drake feeling hurt, then you’re a ho too—an O-V-ho, to be exact.”
He added, “Drake, you’re in this situation because you backed down after hearing ‘Not Like Us.’ Kendrick delivered too much heat for you to handle. Instead of hitting the studio to give us something fresh, you chose to lawyer up. Kendrick won, and he told you to squabble up, not lawyer up.”
Charlamagne concluded his remarks by advising Drake to take a step back from the spotlight. “Take a break, go away. Let nostalgia bring you back. Look at what J. Cole is doing—people don’t even care that he stepped back from the rap battle anymore!”
As of now, it remains unclear whether Drake plans to proceed with his lawsuit against UMG in light of the backlash surrounding his claims. The Toronto rapper has not yet publicly addressed the “pre-action” legal filings or the criticism they have received.
