HipHopRaisedMeTheBlog.com is excited to share that Fat Joe has revealed the details for his upcoming album, The World Changed On Me, which pays tribute to someone very dear to him.
On December 3, Fat Joe posted the cover art and announced that the album is set to drop on December 13. The cover features a heartfelt photograph of Joe alongside his older brother, Angel, who sadly passed away this past Thanksgiving.
In a 2022 NPR interview, Joe reflected on his brother’s early contributions to hip-hop, recalling, “When he would go DJ at the legendary jams, my brother would carry milk crates filled with vinyl. Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel — they called me Little Angel.”
Joe took to Instagram to honor his brother’s memory, writing, “On the AM of Thanksgiving, my Big Brother Angel aka the Money Man passed away. You walked so that the Terror Squad could run. You were the most giving person I ever knew.”
In addition to his brother’s influence, Joe has also discussed other inspirations for his new LP. During an Instagram Live session with Michael Rainey Jr. on October 2, he mentioned the legendary rappers he looks up to when creating new music. “Whenever I make an album, I always put up a poster of Nas, a poster of JAY-Z, and one of Eminem. And I be like, ‘Yo, I gotta be as good as them or even better. In my own mind. I could be delusional, but I do that. I shoot for the stars,’” he shared.
Earlier this year, Fat Joe expressed his excitement about the wave of new projects from his peers, including Nas, DJ Premier, LL Cool J, Common, and Pete Rock, all set to release in 2024. “Breaking news: Fat Joe be dropping an album in August, too, so put me in that list of pioneers and legends and icons,” he noted at the time. Although that release date was pushed back, fans can now look forward to the new project’s arrival.
Fat Joe’s last album was released in 2021, and he had previously stated that he didn’t intend to put out new material anytime soon. However, with The World Changed On Me on the way, it’s clear he has much more to share with his audience.
