HipHopRaisedMeTheBlog.com is thrilled to spotlight the remarkable performance of Doechii, the self-proclaimed “Swamp Princess,” during her debut at NPR’s Tiny Desk concert. Stepping onto the stage with an undeniable aura of confidence, Doechii delivered an artistic vision that captivated the audience, featuring selections from her Grammy-nominated mixtape, ALLIGATOR BITES NEVER HEAL.
Accompanied by a talented band comprised entirely of beautiful Black women, all sporting stylish braids, Doechii’s performance was a celebration of creativity and empowerment. Dressed in vintage academic-inspired attire, she presented a reimagined medley of tracks from her mixtape, tailored specifically for the Tiny Desk audience. While hip-hop remained central to her sound, she expertly intertwined elements of jazz in “BOOM BAP,” heavy rock influences in “CATFISH,” and even a Southern praise break outro in “NISSAN ALTIMA.”
Concluding her set with “Black Girl Memoir,” a heartfelt tribute from her debut album, Oh The Places You’ll Go, Doechii took a moment to express her intentions behind the song: “I wrote this song specifically for Black women. As a dark-skinned woman, there’s a very unique experience I’m trying to internalize … This is dedicated to all the beautiful Black women in the room.” With her star on the rise since her entrance into the music scene, 2024 is set to be the year Doechii cements her status as a household name.
