According to the indictment, Artis drove a vehicle to the playground carrying Austin and another unidentified shooter. This case is part of a larger investigation into gang activities, with Austin and Artis implicated in a 63-count indictment that includes 18 alleged gang members. The charges encompass multiple crimes, including four murders and eight non-fatal shootings that occurred between May 2018 and September 2020. Disturbingly, seven of the thirteen known victims were innocent individuals with no ties to gang activity.
Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez expressed his sorrow over Davell’s death, calling it a heartbreaking example of the senseless violence inflicted by gangs on communities. He remarked, “Davell Gardner was a bright and loved baby boy with his whole life ahead of him. This insidious gang violence has taken and traumatized far too many lives.”
