HipHopRaisedMeTheBlog.com brings you the latest scoop from Young Chris, who recently opened up about the missed opportunity for State Property to collaborate with JAY-Z following their electrifying reunion at his B-Sides concert in 2015. Many fans were hopeful that this reunion would lead to new music, but Chris has shed light on why those plans never materialized.
During a recent episode of Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast, which aired on December 4, Chris reflected on the TIDAL concert that featured not only JAY-Z but also Beanie Sigel, Young Gunz, and Freeway. When asked about the aftermath of the concert, Chris simply stated, “We went right back to the regularly scheduled program,” indicating that nothing significant came from the moment.
As the conversation continued, Chris recalled JAY-Z’s encouragement for the group to create new music. “HOV said, and you can ask Free. I remember this blatantly. He told n-ggas – because you never know where he was going with that or if it was a test – ‘Do a record. Everybody do like four to eight [bars] on it and send it to me.’ We never did the record,” he explained. Young Chris expressed disappointment that they couldn’t get their act together, attributing the inaction to a lack of unity among the group, saying, “I know me and Free was talking about the shit. We just never got it done. I don’t know, man. Everybody wasn’t on the same page.”
Adding to the conversation, Freeway joined the discussion via FaceTime to elaborate on what happened next. He recounted that JAY-Z had told them, “Go to the studio, y’all start cooking up and I’ma meet y’all there.” However, the group ended up going to a party instead, where high-profile guests like Rihanna were present, which distracted them from their musical responsibilities.
Despite this setback, fans of State Property were treated to another reunion earlier this year during Beanie Sigel’s 25th-anniversary show for his acclaimed album The Truth. The concert also featured a surprise appearance by The LOX, creating a nostalgic atmosphere and showcasing the shared history between the two crews.
Reflecting on past rivalries, Beanie Sigel recounted the infamous diss that State Property directed at The LOX during their peak rivalry in 2002. He recalled a moment when Jadakiss was so enraged by their freestyle that he nearly took matters into his own hands. Sheek Louch shared similar sentiments during a conversation with Vlad, revealing that Jadakiss wanted to confront State Property at Hot 97 over the disrespectful freestyle, showcasing the heightened emotions and competitive spirit in hip-hop during that era.
According to Sigel, the tension stemmed from JAY-Z’s subliminal shots at Jadakiss on the remix of R. Kelly’s “Fiesta,” which ignited the rivalry. “Jay took a shot at them,” Beans explained, emphasizing that the competition was fueled by the desire to assert their dominance in the rap game.
As the hip-hop community continues to evolve, fans remain eager to see if State Property will ever capitalize on their reunion with JAY-Z for new music.
