In response to allegations of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000, JAY-Z has taken legal action, requesting that the anonymous accuser either disclose her identity or drop the lawsuit entirely.
After publicly denying the allegations, JAY-Z’s legal team filed a motion in federal court on December 9, seeking to prevent the plaintiff from continuing the case without revealing her name. This follows a motion from the plaintiff’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, filed the day prior, which sought permission for her to pursue the case anonymously.
In a press release, JAY-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, stated, “The filing specifically calls for the identity of the Jane Doe to be revealed so that JAY-Z can adequately defend himself against these unfounded claims in a transparent legal process.”
The motion also accuses Buzbee of having a history of targeting celebrities with false misconduct allegations, asserting that the lawsuit against JAY-Z is an act of retaliation against someone who refused to settle.
The lawsuit alleges that the incident occurred at an afterparty following the MTV Video Music Awards in New York City. Initially filed in October with Diddy named as a co-defendant and JAY-Z referred to as “Celebrity A,” the suit was refiled on December 8, naming JAY-Z (Shawn Carter) explicitly as a defendant.
According to the allegations, the plaintiff was invited to the afterparty by one of Diddy’s drivers, who suggested she “fit what Diddy was looking for.” Once at the venue, she claims she was given a drink that made her feel disoriented, prompting her to find a bedroom to lie down.
The lawsuit alleges that JAY-Z then entered the room, undressed her, and proceeded to rape her while Diddy and an unnamed female celebrity looked on. The claims continue that Diddy also assaulted her during this encounter.
It is reported that the girl managed to escape by striking Diddy in the neck when he attempted to force her into a sexual act. She fled the scene and reached a nearby gas station, where her father picked her up.
In a rare public statement from Roc Nation, JAY-Z condemned the allegations and criticized Buzbee, labeling him a “fraud” and accusing him of attempting to blackmail the rapper.
