At first glance, viewers might be puzzled by the video’s content, which lacks dialogue or text for most of its duration. Instead, it features SZA wandering through a serene forest, filmed from above. The scene takes a bizarre turn when she stops, squats down, and uses the restroom. While unconventional, the video concludes with the text “LANA (SOS Deluxe)” displayed on the screen, confirming the start of a new album cycle. SZA further added to the excitement by captioning the post with “clock starts now,” hinting at a new song that samples the Isley Brothers.
SZA had previously indicated that “LANA” would be released in 2024, although the creative process took longer than expected. In an interview with British Vogue, she described her evolving musical direction: “I think I am making music from a more beautiful place… Piece by piece, my music is shifting because of that, the lighter I get.” She also mentioned that leaks had prompted her to rethink the material for the deluxe edition of SOS.
In a conversation with Billboard, SZA expressed her eagerness to close the chapter on this particular phase of her artistry. “After I do the deluxe, I’m hoping to be able to accept that this chapter is done,” she stated. “I’m looking forward to actually feeling proud of myself and not just smiling and nodding at accolades.” While the trailer did not reveal a specific release date, an official announcement suggests fans can expect it soon.
