Tony Buzbee Responds to Jay-Z’s “Bogus and Laughable” Claims Regarding Allegations

Attorney Tony Buzbee, representing the anonymous woman who has accused Jay-Z of sexual assault, has publicly addressed the Roc Nation founder’s recent statement regarding the allegations against him. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday night, Buzbee dismissed Jay-Z’s assertion that his client is attempting to blackmail him as “bogus and laughable.” This comes after Buzbee’s client amended a suit against Diddy to include claims that Jay-Z raped her at an afterparty for the 2000 MTV VMAs when she was only 13 years old.

Buzbee noted that The New York Times had previously reached out for a comment on the matter, stating, “No one has made any threats.” He clarified that his firm had sent a standard demand letter seeking mediation on behalf of his client, who alleges that Jay-Z sexually assaulted her as a minor. He emphasized that the letter was vetted and approved by his client, who preferred to resolve the matter without resorting to a lawsuit, a common approach in such sensitive cases.

This situation reflects a coordinated and desperate attempt to divert public attention from the allegations against my client and focus it on me personally,” Buzbee continued. He alleged that this campaign has involved harassment against his family and colleagues and accusations of offering former clients money to sue him, which he described as illegal.

Buzbee referenced a famous line from Shakespeare, saying, “When an alleged perpetrator behaves in this manner, wildly asserting that a basic demand letter is ‘extortion’ and aggressively using the media to attack the opposing lawyer while ignoring the allegations being made, it reminds me of the phrase, ‘The lady doth protest too much, methinks.’” He assured that his team would address these issues in court and affirmed that they would not be intimidated by such tactics.

In response, Jay-Z and his lawyer, Alex Spiro, have requested an emergency hearing to address the allegations. Spiro insisted that Jay-Z is “entirely innocent” and highlighted the urgency of the situation due to the extensive media coverage surrounding the case.
