In a recent interview with American Nu Networks, Dame Dash, co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, addressed the serious allegations surrounding JAY-Z and Diddy regarding a lawsuit that claims they raped a 13-year-old girl after the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.
Dash, who has had a longstanding relationship with JAY-Z, expressed his surprise at the situation as well as JAY-Z’s public response. “I’ve been watching the news, and I saw that the attorney had been sued for extortion a few weeks ago,” Dash explained. “Then I noticed the lawyers involved and thought maybe they might be in trouble, but I didn’t dwell on it.”
However, JAY-Z’s statement on Roc Nation’s Instagram proclaiming his innocence and intent to fight the allegations caught Dash off guard. “I was definitely surprised by the length of the statement,” he said. “He usually doesn’t say anything when it comes to court; he lets his lawyers handle it. It must bother him to address it directly.”
Dame Dash emphasized that he is attempting to remain objective regarding the allegations, noting the scrutiny that comes with fame. “I have nothing to do with it and am trying to look at it like everyone else. People are going to speculate regardless,” he said. “It made me think about how dangerous being famous is. The way the algorithm works today is a serious issue; everything from the last 20 to 30 years is being examined closely, and people can easily flip from love to hate.”
While Dash doesn’t wish ill on his former business partner, he expressed his bewilderment at the predictions made by TikTok users about JAY-Z’s potential involvement in the situation over the past six months. He referred to outspoken critics like Jaguar Wright and comedian Katt Williams as “fortune tellers” for their claims regarding JAY-Z.
“I really hope no one got hurt in this situation,” Dash stated. “It’s shocking to see people turn on him like this. I don’t understand how these so-called ‘crazy’ figures like Katt Williams have been making predictions that seem to be coming true.”
The lawsuit, filed by controversial attorney Tony Buzbee, was initially directed solely at Diddy but was later updated to include JAY-Z. The allegations claim both men “drugged and raped a thirteen-year-old girl at an afterparty following the 2000 Video Music Awards,” with a female celebrity allegedly witnessing the assault.
Diddy’s legal team has described the lawsuits as a “barrage” intended to exploit the fears of celebrities worried about false accusations. They maintain Diddy’s innocence, insisting that “the truth will prevail” in court.
Currently, Diddy remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn as he awaits his trial scheduled for May 2025.
