“I put everything on the line,” Ab-Soul shares about his latest album.
Ab-Soul Calls Out Industry Neglect: “It’s Unbecoming
Ab-Soul, whose recent album Soul Burger has been recognized as one of the year’s top releases, is demanding that people stop “pretending to overlook” him.
Released in November through Top Dawg Entertainment, Soul Burger marks Ab’s sixth studio album and his first since 2022’s Herbert. The album pays homage to his late friend Doeburger, who passed away in 2021. Featuring collaborations with artists like Ty Dolla Sign, Doechii, and Vince Staples, the album has already made waves, with the track “California Dream” recently getting its own music video.
In a candid post on X, Ab expressed that he has “put it all on the table” with this album, which he believes is a “phenomenal body of work” in his extensive discography.
“This might come off as distasteful for me to say, especially given the current state of social media, but here it is,” Ab tweeted. “Soul Burger is a phenomenal body of work. I laid everything out. Stop pretending to overlook me. It’s unbecoming of the culture.”
He further emphasized, “I will be heard. Mark my words.”
Ab recently participated in the annual TDE Christmas Concert and Toy Drive, which attracted around 10,000 attendees this year. The event featured performances from artists such as SZA, Jay Rock, Doechii, and GloRilla. Notably, Kendrick Lamar and Ab reunited on stage to perform their track “Squabble Up” from the GNX album.
Looking ahead, Ab is set to perform at Wiz Khalifa’s 420 on the Rocks concert at the iconic Red Rocks venue in Colorado next April. Joining him on the lineup are Larry June, Chevy Woods, and DJ Bonics, with tickets already available for this highly anticipated event.
