GloRilla Donates $25K to Old High School, Honored with Media Center Named After Her

In a heartfelt gesture that underscores her commitment to giving back, Memphis rapper GloRilla recently donated $25,000 to her alma mater, Melrose High School. The donation, presented on December 18, 2024, will be used to establish a new media center within the school’s library, which will be named the Gloria H. Woods Media Center in her honor.

GloRilla, who has quickly risen to stardom in the music industry, took the time to surprise students at her former high school with the generous donation. In her visit, she expressed her desire to provide resources that she wished she had during her own time as a student. “So the fact that I have the ability to do it now, it warms my heart,” she shared, illustrating her dedication to improving the educational environment for future generations.

The donation will be allocated in several impactful ways. The school plans to use $5,000 for flexible, comfortable seating and allergen-free carpets to create inviting study areas. Another $5,000 will go towards upgrading the library’s learning software, enhancing the technological resources available to students. Additionally, a portion of the funds will support the introduction of “Glo Bucks,” a student incentive program aimed at rewarding academic achievements and positive behavior.

GloRilla is also establishing a mentorship program, with $5,000 set aside to facilitate field trips and programs that promote both learning and overall wellness among participating students. This initiative will culminate in opportunities for students to connect with GloRilla via video, allowing them to share their experiences and growth.

Moreover, $5,000 will be allocated to the Melrose Clothes Closet, providing essential items like toiletries and clothing for students in need. The remaining $2,500 will support community engagement initiatives aimed at fostering stronger connections between the school and the local community.

During her visit, GloRilla posed for a photo in front of a trophy case, recreating a moment from her high school days. She shared side-by-side images of the two moments on her Instagram Story, showcasing her journey from student to successful artist.

GloRilla’s philanthropic efforts come alongside a successful year in her music career. Her single “TGIF” was named the Best Song of the Year by Time magazine, highlighting her growing influence in the industry. As she continues to make strides in her career, GloRilla remains grounded and committed to uplifting her community.

Her generous donation and the establishment of the Gloria H. Woods Media Center exemplify the positive impact artists can have on their communities, serving as an inspiration for others to follow suit. As GloRilla continues to rise in the music world, her dedication to education and mentorship sets a powerful example for aspiring artists and students alike.
