Pleasure P is determined to receive recognition and financial compensation for his claimed role in co-writing Lil Wayne’s iconic 2008 hit “Lollipop.” The former member of Pretty Ricky recently took to Instagram Live to assert that he co-wrote the track alongside the late Static Major and that he is owed a share of the song’s substantial earnings, which he estimates at $28 million.
While “Lollipop” played in the background, Pleasure P expressed his frustration, stating, “I wrote that. [‘Lollipop’ co-writer] Rex Zamor, [Lil Wayne’s longtime manager] Tez, Wayne, Mack Maine: I need my fucking plaque for this song, bro.” He continued, addressing the song’s producer Jim Jonsin and others involved, saying, “Rex got my publishing, and he got his name on this record. And I can’t get my just due. Before my first album came out, I wrote this song with Static.”
Feeling the pressure of personal circumstances, he mentioned, “My son just got out of jail. I ain’t got time for this shit no more, bro. Just give me what I deserve. I wrote this.” He highlighted the song’s success, noting it sold 1.3 million copies in its first week, and lamented that he hasn’t been able to celebrate that achievement.
Pleasure P also took a jab at Zamor, who is now associated with CMG and manages GloRilla, saying, “That’s my old fucking manager, who’s standing behind GloRilla on red carpets because he wants to be seen.”
This is not the first time Pleasure P has claimed credit for “Lollipop.” In a previous appearance on The Baller Alert Show in 2023, he reiterated his contribution to the song, stating, “There’s certain elements of the song I wrote that’s still in there. But Wayne obviously did what he needed to do.”
Back in 2008, producer Jim Jonsin acknowledged Pleasure P’s involvement but did not specify that he was a writer on the track. Jonsin had originally created the song for Danity Kane but later brought it to Pleasure P, who was working with Static Major at the time. Static Major eventually played the song for Lil Wayne, leading to its iconic status.
In related news, Lil Wayne recently confirmed that he spoke to Kendrick Lamar following the drama surrounding next year’s Super Bowl halftime show, where Kendrick is set to perform. Wayne expressed his support for Kendrick, wishing him well and encouraging him to “kill it” during the performance.
