Trey Songz is in the midst of a legal battle after a judge issued an $11 million default judgment against him in a battery lawsuit filed by Maryland Capitol police officer Tyrelle Dunn. The case stems from an incident in November 2021, when Dunn alleged he was injured while attempting to rescue his wife from Songz’s hotel room in Las Vegas.
In a motion submitted by Songz’s legal team, the singer expressed his urgent plea to the court not to enforce the judgment, which he described as “devastating” and potentially life-altering. The motion claims that Songz was unaware of the lawsuit until November 27, 2024, when news of the judgment surfaced. His attorneys argue that Dunn did not properly serve the summons and complaint, denying Songz the opportunity to defend himself in court.
Songz’s attorney emphasized the significance of allowing the artist to present his case, stating that enforcing the judgment would lead to severe repercussions for him. The singer firmly denies the allegations against him, and his legal team highlighted the results of a thorough criminal investigation conducted by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, which found no evidence of wrongdoing on Songz’s part. The District Attorney’s office ultimately did not file any charges related to the incident.
On the other side, Dunn has urged the court to dismiss Songz’s request to overturn the judgment, asserting that the process server had properly served the necessary documents. As of now, a judge has yet to make a ruling on the matter, leaving the outcome uncertain for the embattled singer.
