Ray Vaughn is making waves in the hip-hop scene with his latest single, “Crashout Heritage,” which many fans believe serves as a response to Joey Badass. The TDE rapper dropped the track on Wednesday morning, quickly drawing attention for its pointed lyrics aimed at the New York artist.
In “Crashout Heritage,” Vaughn takes issue with Joey Badass’s recent track, “The Ruler’s Back,” where Joey expressed frustration over the accolades given to Kendrick Lamar and other West Coast artists in 2024. Rather than directly naming names, Joey’s sneak disses prompted Vaughn to defend his former labelmate. In one of his lines, Vaughn questions Joey’s approach, asking, “What’s with the sneak dissin? Takin’ shots at us, then hide the Uzi,” and further emphasizes that “the only badass the world was recognizin’ is Boosie.”
Vaughn doesn’t hold back, calling Joey a hypocrite for criticizing West Coast artists, especially considering he collaborated with Ab-Soul on the latter’s 2022 album Herbert. He raps, “Please don’t get confused with shootin’ the movies, we really shootin,” asserting that Joey looks foolish for his criticisms.
However, Ray Vaughn’s targets don’t stop with Joey Badass. He also takes aim at Tory Lanez, currently serving a decade in prison, for continuing to diss Megan Thee Stallion while behind bars. Vaughn remarks, “And Tory, you should be ashamed of yourself, ‘Cause DDG needed to sell, you did a verse from a cell.”
Vaughn also addresses podcast hosts Mal and Rory, reacting to their criticisms of Kendrick Lamar after the Pop Out Show. He delivers a sharp line, “Shoulda did 60 days in for a podcast,” and challenges Mal directly, implying he would face consequences for his comments.
With “Crashout Heritage,” Ray Vaughn aims to showcase his lyrical prowess and elevate his status as an artist within TDE. The track has certainly sparked conversations and solidified Vaughn’s readiness to engage in the competitive landscape of hip-hop.
