The hip-hop community is mourning the loss of DJ Unk, the iconic Atlanta rapper known for his infectious hits “Walk It Out” and “2 Step.” Born Anthony Leonard Platt, DJ Unk passed away at the age of 43, as confirmed by his wife, Sherkita Long-Platt, on January 24. The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.

In a heartfelt message shared on Facebook, Long-Platt expressed her grief, stating, “I just lost my husband and my kids just lost their father. Our life will never be the same. I LOVE YOU ANTHONY FOREVER.”

Tributes have poured in from fans and colleagues alike, with Big Oomp Records, his music label, calling him “a true ATL legend.” The label honored his contributions, emphasizing the indelible mark he left on the industry and the countless lives he touched through his music and vibrant spirit.

DJ Unk’s 2006 single “2 Step” achieved significant success, peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart, while “Walk It Out” gained further recognition through a remix featuring Andre 3000 and Jim Jones. His energetic performances and catchy tracks made him a staple in the hip-hop scene.

Most recently, his influence was seen when GloRilla sampled his song “Hold On Ho” in her 2024 single “Hollon.” DJ Unk’s legacy as a rapper, DJ, and producer will continue to inspire future generations of artists and fans.
