Historic Win: Psiryn Claims No. 1 on Adult R&B Airplay Chart with “Sober”

In a groundbreaking achievement for R&B, the girl group Psiryn has made history by securing the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart with their single “Sober.” This marks the first time in nearly two decades that an all-female duo or group has topped this chart, and the first trio to do so in over 23 years.

Psiryn, consisting of members Anaya Chayenne, Jada Denise, and Victoria McQueen, ascended to the top after an impressive 8% increase in airplay, making “Sober” the most-played song on U.S. adult R&B radio stations for the tracking week of January 31 to February 6, according to Luminate. The group expressed their disbelief and excitement in a statement, saying, “It feels surreal and is an absolute honor… we still can’t believe this is happening!”

“Sober” initially debuted at No. 23 in September, but after a steady climb—despite facing challenges during the holiday season—the single finally achieved its peak position. The group attributes its success to the song’s relatability, resonating with listeners who connect with its themes of taking a break from reality.

Released under Kandi Koated Entertainment, the independent label owned by Kandi Burruss of Xscape fame, “Sober” showcases the trio’s vocal talent and emotional depth. Burruss, a seasoned figure in the industry, has a rich history of hits, making this partnership a promising venture for the rising stars.

In addition to its success on the Adult R&B Airplay chart, “Sober” is also performing well on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, where it has reached a peak position of No. 18. With audience impressions climbing to 6.2 million, up from 5.5 million, the song continues to gain traction across multiple platforms.

As Psiryn celebrates this monumental achievement, they join an elite group of female artists who have broken barriers in the R&B genre, paving the way for future generations. Their success with “Sober” not only highlights their talent but also signals a resurgence of girl groups in the music industry.
