In a revealing interview with The Art Of Dialogue, Suge Knight shared a dramatic account of an alleged confrontation between 2Pac and Snoop Dogg that occurred after Snoop’s appearance on Hot 97 following the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards. Knight recounted that 2Pac was furious with Snoop for expressing friendship with The Notorious B.I.G. and Diddy during the radio show, which led to a physical altercation.
According to Knight, 2Pac felt betrayed. He passionately expressed his loyalty to Snoop and the Death Row Records family, stating, “’Pac was so mad because ‘Pac loved those dudes. He’d always ride for them.” He criticized Snoop for stating on air that he was riding with his enemies, which escalated tensions.
Upon their confrontation, Knight alleged that 2Pac confronted Snoop directly, resulting in 2Pac allegedly throwing a punch at him. “When we got downstairs, ‘Pac took off on Snoop,” Knight claimed, describing how 2Pac chased Snoop, prompting Knight to intervene and suggest they resolve their differences after returning home to California.
Despite the tensions that existed between them, Snoop Dogg later acknowledged the significant role 2Pac played in his life, particularly in relation to fatherhood. In a 2024 interview with PEOPLE, Snoop admitted that 2Pac was a better father figure to his son than he had been at times, reflecting on their close bond. “Tupac loved him. It’s like his nephew. Tupac was a better dad than me,” Snoop said, emphasizing the impact 2Pac had on his life.
The dynamics between 2Pac and Snoop Dogg were complex, marked by both camaraderie and conflict, particularly in the turbulent landscape of ’90s hip-hop. Knight’s revelations add another layer to the narrative surrounding these iconic figures, whose legacies continue to resonate within the music industry.
