In a significant milestone for hip-hop, OutKast has been nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for the first time in their illustrious career. The legendary duo, consisting of André 3000 and Big Boi, stands out as the only hip-hop act among the 14 potential inductees in the 2025 class, which also features iconic artists such as Mariah Carey, Soundgarden, The White Stripes, and influential British bands like Oasis, Joy Division, and New Order.
In response to the nomination, OutKast expressed their gratitude on Instagram with a simple yet heartfelt message: “’Preciate it – – Big & 3.” The induction ceremony, which is sure to be a landmark event, will see the final inductees announced in April, followed by a televised celebration later in the year.
Voting is currently open on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s official website, allowing fans to cast their votes for up to seven artists daily until April 21. John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, praised the nominees, noting their significant contributions to music and the evolution of rock and roll.
To be eligible for induction, an artist must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior. OutKast made their debut in 1993, meaning they became eligible for nomination starting in 2018. The nomination comes at a time when hip-hop has historically faced underrepresentation within the Hall of Fame, sparking ongoing debates about the genre’s inclusion and recognition.
Last year, A Tribe Called Quest was inducted, with Q-Tip delivering an emotional speech that paid tribute to their late member, Phife Dawg, and acknowledged the contributions of their families and supporters.
With notable hip-hop artists like JAY-Z, Eminem, 2Pac, Biggie, and Missy Elliott already enshrined in the Hall, OutKast’s nomination marks a significant moment for the genre. Fans and music lovers alike are eagerly awaiting the results, hoping to see the duo take their rightful place in music history. Stay tuned for updates as the voting period progresses!
