Tragedy struck the hip-hop community when Sauce Walka’s artist, Sayso P, was killed in a shooting incident that also left Sauce Walka injured. The two rappers were outside a hotel near the FedEx Forum in Memphis on March 22 when they were targeted by gunmen. Sayso P, whose real name was Latorian Hunt, succumbed to his injuries, while Sauce Walka sustained a non-critical leg wound.
Memphis police have since identified a suspect in the case. A warrant has been issued for 21-year-old Jayden Dandridge, who is facing serious felony charges, including first-degree murder, two counts of employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and auto theft. Authorities have recovered the vehicle used in the shooting, a stolen 2021 Dodge Charger, and are urging anyone with information leading to Dandridge’s arrest to contact them at 901-528-CASH, with a reward of $6,000 being offered.
In a heartfelt tribute shared on social media, Sauce Walka expressed his grief over the loss of his friend and artist. “Words or tears can’t explain the loss I feel!” he wrote, reflecting on moments they shared and his regret over Sayso P’s decision to leave the hotel room. He lamented, “I wish your fat ahh listened to me and stayed in the room.” Walka’s emotional message highlighted the bond they had formed over the years as they worked together to change Sayso P’s lifestyle.
Sayso P’s mother also took to social media, hinting at the possibility that her son was set up, stating, “Haters set him up but not because he stole a dime.” She emphasized her son’s loyalty and character, insisting that he was never involved in any wrongdoing. “He was too loyal. Too loyal to the wrong people was his biggest downfall,” she wrote, vowing to protect her son’s legacy against false rumors.
As the investigation progresses, the hip-hop community mourns the loss of Sayso P and supports Sauce Walka during this difficult time. Fans are left to reflect on the impact of gun violence in the industry and the need for change.
