Playboi Carti’s latest album, MUSIC, continues to make waves, spending its second consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart dated April 5, 2025. The album initially debuted atop the list with the biggest first-week numbers for a rap title this year, and it shows no signs of slowing down.
In its second week, MUSIC earned 131,000 equivalent album units in the U.S., a 56% drop from its opening week total of 298,000. This marks Carti’s second No. 1 album, and notably, it’s the first time he has maintained the top position for more than one week, previously achieving just one week at No. 1 with Whole Lotta Red in January 2021.
Joining Carti at the top is Selena Gomez and benny blanco, whose collaborative album I Said I Love You First debuts at No. 2. The project garnered 120,000 equivalent album units in its opening week, marking the largest week for both artists. Gomez has now achieved her seventh top 10 album, while this is blanco’s first.
The breakdown of MUSIC’s units reveals 124,000 from streaming, 7,000 from album sales, and a negligible amount from track equivalent albums (TEA). The album’s success was bolstered by the release of a deluxe edition, MUSIC – Sorry 4 Da Wait, which added four new tracks and was made available just days before the tracking period ended.
On the other hand, I Said I Love You First saw impressive first-week sales, with 71,000 coming from album sales and 48,000 from streaming. The album was supported by a multi-format release strategy, including various vinyl editions and digital download variants, which undoubtedly contributed to its strong debut.
The rest of the top 10 on the Billboard 200 features previous chart-toppers: Kendrick Lamar’s GNX at No. 3, PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake’s $ome $exy $ongs 4 U at No. 4, and SZA’s SOS at No. 5.
As the music industry continues to evolve, both Carti and the Gomez-blanco duo are proving their commercial viability. Fans are eager to see how the charts will shift in the coming weeks.
