Rapper Sada Baby Arrested in Macomb County on Drug Charge

Detroit rapper Sada Baby, whose real name is Casada Sorrell, was arrested on a drug charge warrant and subsequently arraigned on Wednesday. According to media reports and court records, Sorrell was charged with possession of a controlled substance (narcotic/cocaine) of less than 25 grams, a felony under Michigan law. The original charge was filed on January 9.

During his arraignment, Sorrell waived a formal reading of the complaint and pleaded not guilty. A personal bond of $5,000 was set, with the condition that he must not possess or use controlled substances while out on bond. Attempts to reach Sorrell’s attorney for comment were unsuccessful.

Sorrell was arrested on Tuesday and was no longer listed in jail records by early Wednesday evening. According to Sterling Heights Police Capt. Mario Bastianelli, the rapper was apprehended by Shelby Township police based on a warrant issued in Sterling Heights. While Bastianelli could not provide specific details about the arrest, he mentioned it was connected to a traffic stop that took place in January.

On January 9, a Sterling Heights police officer observed a pickup truck with tinted windows around 4 a.m. and, upon checking the license plate, found that the registered owner—Sorrell—had an outstanding warrant for driving while unlicensed. The officer identified Sorrell as the driver and arrested him. The police report indicated that possible illegal contraband was seen inside the vehicle, though it did not specify what items were found.

Sorrell pleaded guilty in March to a misdemeanor charge of failure to display a valid license. The original misdemeanor charge of driving while unlicensed, which dated back to 2023, was dismissed in favor of the lesser charge.

Sada Baby emerged in Detroit’s rap scene in the late 2010s, gaining recognition with hit singles like “Aktivated” and “Pressin,” a collaboration with King Von. He achieved further success in 2020 with the track “Whole Lotta Choppas,” which received a remix featuring Nicki Minaj.

A probable cause conference for Sorrell’s drug case is scheduled for April 21, with a preliminary exam set for April 28, according to court records. This story has been updated to include additional information regarding the arrest and charges.
