Celebrity News: Mavado Set to Return to Jamaican Stage for Major Concert After Nearly a Decade

Dancehall artiste Mavado, known as the “Gully Gad,” is making a highly anticipated return to the Jamaican stage with his first major concert on home soil in almost a decade. Titled “Return of the Gully Gad,” the event is scheduled to take place at Plantation Cove in St Ann on December 27.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the organizers of Reggae Fest, who are eager to recreate the magic of Vybz Kartel’s recent back-to-back sold-out shows at the Barclays Center in New York back in April. The event is once again backed by CJ Milan, who played a crucial role in Vybz Kartel’s historic comeback to the U.S. stage after 13 years behind bars.

Mavado, whose real name is David ‘Mavado’ Brooks, recently returned to Jamaica for the first time last week after years abroad in the United States. He made a brief stop to enjoy coconut jelly to “wash off his heart” before heading to a late-night meeting at the S Hotel in Kingston. His return was made possible after a warrant for his arrest, stemming from an assault charge in 2018, was lifted. This warrant was filed by Anthony Goulbourne, who had faced charges for allegedly shooting at the entertainer.

The upcoming concert is expected to draw thousands of fans from both Jamaica and around the world, reminiscent of Vybz Kartel’s celebrated return to the local stage last December. Tickets for the highly anticipated event will go on sale on Thursday, October 23rd, at 10:00 AM via reggaefest.com.

As Mavado prepares to take the stage once again, fans are buzzing with excitement over the chance to see the international dancehall star perform live.
