GLORILLA EXPLAINS CHANGING HER RAP VOICE & BECOMING COMFORTABLE WITH HER DEEP VOICE

GloRilla made a name for herself with her deep, bass-heavy voice; however, back in the day she wanted to sound more “like a girl.”

During a conversation with The Cut, Big Glo explained how her voice sounded much different when she first began rapping. According to the Memphis star, her voice started to change because she picked up smoking, and when she tried to up her voice, her friends called her out

When I first started rapping. I wanted to sound like a girl,” she told the outlet before mentioning her friends wanting her to keep her deep voice. “They were like, ‘You really got bars. Your voice just sound squeaky.’ I was like, ‘Oh, okay, let me just put emphasis on what I already sound like, just add a lil bit more sauce to it.’”

That advice proved to be fruitful for the Collective Music Group rapper as she found mainstream success with her breakout single “F.N.F. (Let’s Go).” The song has since earned Glo her first Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance at this year’s awards ceremony, which take place on Sunday (February 5).

Later in her interview with The Cut, GloRilla expressed her excitement over attending the Grammys this year and potentially taking home the golden gramophone.

“I’m super-excited and super-nervous because a lot of people don’t get to go to the Grammys, you know what I’m saying?” she said. “But I’m just super-grateful. And it happened to me super fast. I’m still taking it all in.”

GloRilla also earned the 2022 HipHopDX Rookie of the Year award and was recently named in the Recording Industry Association of America’s Class of 2022 after earning her first gold certification for her hit collaboration with Cardi B, “Tomorrow 2.”

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old has recently been fighting off pregnancy rumors. Fans began talking after an old image of her holding her belly surfaced online and she had to clear to air. She explained that she was just joking.

Now why am I trending?????” she wrote. “Don’t forget I blocks [the fuck] outta people. Don’t get blocked for laughs. [And] y’all slow [as fuck]. I was [just playing] on [that] picture. Nobody knew when I actually was pregnant till it was gone.”
