Jim Jones previously suggested that Pusha-T shouldn’t be considered one of the greatest rappers of all time, and now he’s doubled down on that opinion.
In an interview on The Breakfast Club, Jones was asked about his comments regarding the It’s Almost Dry rapper and decided to dig in his heels. “I don’t think Pusha-T will reach out to me, I’m not the type of person you’re gonna reach out to about my opinion,” he said when asked by Charlamagne at the 27:40 point if Push has reached out. “I ain’t cool with him like that. I know him to say, ‘What’s up?’ Give him a pound, you dig? I wasn’t trying to diss him. They asked me a question… My phone ain’t the line to be calling.”
Charlamagne was referring to comments Jones made on the RapCaviar podcast earlier this month, in which he questioned why Push was placed at No. 29 on Billboard’s Greatest Rappers of All Time list and reiterated his belief that Drake could be No. 1. “Can you sing along to five Pusha-T records right now?” Jones asked Charlamagne, who said he could. “Could you name five Pusha T records?” pointed to Charlamagne’s co-host DJ Envy. “No. Could you rap to five Pusha-T records?”
He then proceeded to compare Pusha’s output to other rappers. “Could you rap five [JAY-Z] verses if they came on?” he asked. “Could you rap five Drake verses if they came on?” Charlamagne said he could rap five Jay-Z verses, but he couldn’t rap five Drake verses because he’s never been the biggest fan. “You lying because you work at radio,” Jones continued. “I’m just gonna say that because n****s gonna say Jim went way wildin’.”
Jones agreed that Pusha-T is a talented lyricist, but he’s just not in his own top 50 rappers list. “Shoutout to Pusha-T, I love your soul,” Jones said. “You my dawg. You not in my top 50. You might be in Charlamagne’s top 50 and things like that, but you haven’t done that much for me in my life. I didn’t never want to be like Pusha, I never had a Pusha moment in my life.”
Earlier this month, Jones asked on the RapCaviar podcast why Pusha-T should be on the greatest of all time list. “He’s nice as shit. He could rap his ass off, but what has he done?” he said. “I don’t know too many n****s in this game that was leaning towards being like Pusha-T. Pusha-T don’t hold no weight out here. He not pushing no shit out here.””
