Kendrick Lamar has embraced his eccentric side in a Chanel photoshoot highlighting “ambassadors and friends of the house” in honor of this year’s Met Gala.
The annual star-studded fashion event was larger than ever. In honor of the late designer and former creative director for Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, celebrities wore their finest gowns (and suits) to honor the legendary fashion icon
Kendrick Lamar, along with legendary model Naomi Campbell, actor Margaret Qualley, and South Korean pop star, Jennie Kim were among those named as this year’s “ambassadors and friends of the house.” Chanel celebrated the moment with group portraits of the stars on Instagram Tuesday (May 2).
In the photos, the girls give their chicest poses, but at first Lamar offers a very wide (and slightly creepy) smile, revealing his diamond-studded tooth. As for the second flick, however, the rapper decided to give the appearance a dapper touch.
In related news, Kendrick Lamar recently broke Drake’s tour record with his Big Steppers Tour, which has grossed over $100million.
According to Touring Data, K. Dot’s Big Steppers Tour is now the highest-grossing tour by a rapper as a headlining act in history. It earned $110.9million from 929,000 tickets across 73 shows.
This puts K. Dot ahead of Drake and Migos‘ Aubrey & The Three Migos Tour, Drake and Future‘s Summer Sixteen Tour, Kanye West and JAY-Z‘s Watch the Throne Tour, and his own DAMN. Tour, as well as Travis Scott‘s Astroworld Tour.
The Big Steppers Tour began in July 2022 following the release of Kendrick’s long-awaited fifth album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers and ended that September.
With support from pgLang protégés Baby Keem and Tanna Leone, the tour initially toured North America, then proceeded to Europe and Australia.
Kendrick Lamar, Dave Free and Mike Carson were creative directors for the tour, with actor Helen Mirren narrating. The setlist included songs from Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, as well as Kendrick’s previous albums good kid, m.A.A.d city, To Pimp a Butterfly and DAMN.
Kendrick’s $110.9million earnings put him ahead of Drake and Migos by a wide margin, with their Aubrey and The Three Migos Tour reportedly grossing $79million in 2018 from a total of 678,410 tickets sold across 43 dates.
Drizzy reportedly took home $47million, while Migos’ Quavo, TakeOff and Offset split the remaining $24.5million
