BEYONCÉ & JAY-Z SUED FOR COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT OVER ‘BREAK MY SOUL’

Beyoncé and JAY-Z are facing a copyright infringement lawsuit over Beyoncé’s song “Break My Soul,” in which a group called Da Showstoppaz alleges that their 2002 song “Release A Wiggle” was unlawfully used. Big Freedia is also involved in the lawsuit due to a sample from her song “Explode” being used on “Break My Soul.” The plaintiffs claim that their unique phrases, melody, and musical arrangement were used without their permission and are seeking damages, royalties, and proper credit.

The issue of copyright infringement in the music industry is not a new one, as artists often face legal challenges over the use of samples or similarities in their songs. In this case, Da Showstoppaz are asserting their rights as creators and seeking compensation for the alleged unauthorized use of their music.

Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album has been a huge success, surpassing 1 billion streams on Spotify and topping the Billboard 200 chart. Despite her continued success, this lawsuit highlights the legal complexities that can arise in the music industry when it comes to intellectual property rights.

As the case unfolds, it will be interesting to see how Beyoncé, JAY-Z, and Big Freedia respond to the allegations of copyright infringement. In the meantime, the lawsuit serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting the creative work of others and obtaining proper permissions for the use of copyrighted material in music.
