HipHopRaisedMeTheBlog.com is excited to report that Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us” has achieved a remarkable milestone, being named the most streamed song on Apple Music for 2024. This accolade adds to its impressive chart performance and recognition as the top-selling song in the U.S. this year.
On December 3, Apple Music unveiled its “Top Songs of 2024: Global” playlist, highlighting the most popular tracks of the year. Following Kendrick in the rankings, Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” claimed the fourth spot, while Post Malone’s collaboration with Morgan Wallen, “I Had Some Help,” secured sixth place. Kendrick’s influence is further underscored by his appearance in the top 10 again, thanks to his feature on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That,” which landed at number eight.
The attention surrounding “Not Like Us” intensified recently due to Drake’s controversial legal actions against Universal Music Group. The dispute centers on accusations from Drake claiming that UMG artificially inflated the track’s popularity through streaming bots and payola. He has also alleged that the label defamed him by releasing a song that brands him a pedophile.
Since Drake’s petitions were filed on November 25, sales of “Not Like Us” surged by an astonishing 440%, with streams increasing by 20%, according to Talk of the Charts. The track has also climbed back up the charts on both Apple Music and Spotify, seeing a 16-place jump on Spotify’s Global chart.
Industry experts have warned Drake that his legal battle could inadvertently benefit Kendrick Lamar. Audiomack co-founder Brian “Z” Zisook remarked, “No amount of money in the world is worth the reputational harm that Drake is causing to himself by filing these suits.” He further explained that filing lawsuits serves as a reminder of the song’s existence, embodying the “Streisand effect,” where attempts to suppress information only draw more attention to it.
Entertainment lawyer Kevin Casini echoed this sentiment, suggesting that the legal actions will only amplify the focus on the lyrics Drake finds objectionable, likely leading to further increases in streaming numbers for the song.
As Kendrick Lamar continues to dominate the music scene, “Not Like Us” stands as a testament to his artistry and impact in hip-hop.
