The dispute centers on accusations from Drake claiming that UMG artificially inflated the track’s popularity through streaming bots and payola. He has also alleged that the label defamed him by releasing a song that brands him a pedophile.

Audiomack co-founder Brian “Z” Zisook remarked, “No amount of money in the world is worth the reputational harm that Drake is causing to himself by filing these suits.” He further explained that filing lawsuits serves as a reminder of the song’s existence, embodying the “Streisand effect,” where attempts to suppress information only draw more attention to it.
Entertainment lawyer Kevin Casini echoed this sentiment, suggesting that the legal actions will only amplify the focus on the lyrics Drake finds objectionable, likely leading to further increases in streaming numbers for the song.
