In an exciting development for hip-hop fans, DDG has previewed a new track that includes a verse from Tory Lanez, recorded via phone while Lanez is currently serving time in prison.

DDG first gained fame as a YouTuber and social media influencer, but his profile skyrocketed further when he started dating singer Halle Bailey. Now, he is fully focused on his music career, moving away from YouTube after his breakup with Bailey. Recently, he released the single “Trickin,” but it’s the teaser for his upcoming song that has fans buzzing. Despite Lanez’s incarceration, DDG has collaborated with him, with the new track set to release on December 13.

While the title of the song remains under wraps, DDG shared a snippet on social media where he can be seen vibing in the studio. He holds his phone up to a microphone, allowing fans to hear Lanez’s verse recorded from behind bars. This marks the first time fans have had the opportunity to hear new material from Lanez since his recording equipment was seized by prison officials in September. Lanez had been working on a series titled “Prison Tapes,” which was unfortunately cut short.

In an Instagram post, Lanez expressed his disappointment about the cancellation of his series, stating, “I was shut down because the higher-ups figured out what I was really doing with The Prison Tapes and how many inmates were being helped in a life-changing way because of them.”

DDG’s choice to collaborate with Lanez has surprised some, given his image as a family-oriented artist. Nevertheless, DDG has never hesitated to address complex themes in his music. In his track “WHAT U BAD FOR,” he reflected on his breakup with Bailey, honoring their past while confidently asserting his single status. “The thing about Halo mommy, you know that’s my baby forever,” he rapped, cleverly substituting the word “hoe” with “go.”

While DDG has yet to confirm the title or release date for his forthcoming album, he has been steadily releasing singles, leading fans to speculate that the Tory Lanez collaboration will be included in the final tracklist.
