Yak Gotti To Remain Behind Bars While Dealing With Outstanding Warrant
In a recent ruling, rapper Yak Gotti will continue to serve time behind bars after a judge denied his request for an emergency bond. This decision comes despite a jury’s not-guilty verdict in the YSL RICO trial, where Gotti faced serious charges. Unfortunately for the young artist, an outstanding charge related to possessing or providing prohibited items to an inmate in 2023 has kept him from being released.
Gotti’s attorney, Kayla Bumpuss, had sought an emergency hearing citing an incident from December 1, during which the rapper was reportedly attacked while incarcerated. She argued that his safety was at risk if he remained in the Fulton County Jail, which has been the subject of serious scrutiny regarding the conditions within.
“It is evident that the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office cannot keep Mr. Kendrick safe,” Bumpuss wrote in her motion, as reported by Fox 5 Atlanta. She highlighted a concerning report from the Department of Justice that detailed the hazardous conditions at the Fulton County Jail. The report noted instances of pest infestations, malnourishment, and violence among incarcerated individuals, including serious incidents such as homicides, stabbings, and sexual abuse.

The YSL RICO trial, which recently concluded with not-guilty verdicts for most defendants, became the longest criminal trial in Georgia’s history. Despite the favorable outcome for many, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has expressed no regrets regarding the prosecution, emphasizing the importance of valuing every life impacted by violence in the community.
Prior to the trial’s conclusion, fellow YSL member Young Thug opted for a plea deal in October, accepting 15 years of probation along with several restrictions to avoid further prison time.
As Yak Gotti awaits further developments in his case, the spotlight remains on the ongoing issues within the Fulton County Jail and the broader implications of the YSL RICO trial.
