Letter Promoting “Brown Round-Up” Circulates in Oregon, Supporting Trump’s Mass Deportation Plans

A troubling letter titled “The Brown Round-Up Part 1” has emerged in coastal Oregon, outlining strategies for supporters of Donald Trump to assist in his administration’s mass deportation efforts. The letter, which began circulating at the start of December, has reached various elected officials, including Toledo Mayor Rod Cross and members of the city council.

The document claims that starting in late January 2025, the United States will initiate the largest operation to round up undocumented immigrants, specifically targeting individuals of color. Recipients are urged to identify those they suspect are in the country illegally.

The letter suggests conducting surveillance in various locations, including church parking lots—specifically Catholic churches, as they claim a high number of undocumented individuals attend these services. Other targeted areas include shopping centers, school drop-off zones, neighborhoods, construction sites, and landscaping businesses, where vigilantes can gather information on suspected undocumented immigrants.

Moreover, it warns that individuals from neighboring states such as Idaho and Montana may relocate to Oregon, intensifying the need for vigilance. The letter asserts that following the inauguration of the GOP president-elect on January 20, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security will provide a point of contact for reporting these individuals.

The memo states that those apprehended will be held in county jails until immigrant camps in Texas are established, suggesting a potential influx of homes on the market as immigrants are displaced—drawing a parallel to the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

Sheriff Curtis Landers publicly condemned the letter’s dangerous implications. In a statement on Facebook, he emphasized that such actions are harmful and divisive, eroding trust within the community. Landers cautioned against engaging in the activities outlined in the letter and reiterated that his department does not report citizenship information to ICE. He also informed the FBI about the situation.

In recent developments, Trump announced former ICE director Thomas Homan as his “border czar,” with Homan expressing intentions to ramp up deportations and dispatch agents to sanctuary cities to enforce immigration policies.
