Geoffrey Owens, best known for his role on The Cosby Show, has opened up about the $25,000 he received from Nicki Minaj and why he chose to donate that amount to charity. Owens gained attention a few years ago when a viral photo showed him working at Trader Joe’s, prompting widespread support from fans and fellow celebrities, including Minaj.
In an interview with Atlanta’s V-103 radio station, Owens reflected on the overwhelming support he received after the photo circulated, stating, “At first, there was some negative stuff about basically the job-shaming. A ‘Where is he now?’ kinda thing. But then, very soon after that, there was all this support and encouragement from all over the world.” He explained that the scrutiny he faced made it difficult for him to handle, leading to his decision to step back from the spotlight for a while.
Regarding the donation from Nicki Minaj, Owens shared, “At the time, it seemed like the right thing to do.” He noted that despite his past roles in the entertainment industry, he still struggles financially. “Even today, right now, as we speak, I still struggle to make a living. I struggle every day to make my ends meet. And people can’t get their heads around that because they see me in movies,” he said, emphasizing the misconceptions about the financial realities of middle-class actors.
While Owens continues to navigate his career and financial challenges, he remains passionate about his craft and grateful for the support he has received. In the meantime, Nicki Minaj is also looking to reconnect with her fans, teasing a new album and tour, despite some disappointment surrounding the absence of a deluxe edition of her recent album, Pink Friday 2.
As Geoffrey Owens continues to share his story and advocate for those in similar situations, his honesty and resilience serve as an inspiration. Fans are hopeful for his future endeavors and look forward to Minaj’s upcoming projects as well. Stay tuned for more updates on both artists as they move forward in their respective journeys.
