During a recent livestream, Akademiks speculated that the lawsuit could harm Jay-Z’s reputation and affect his business ventures. He noted that accusations of sexual assault can significantly tarnish a public figure’s image, stating, “When he gets accused of sexual assault, now people look at it to say, ‘Woah, that’s not the guy who could tell us blah blah blah. This is the rapist.’ That’s a really nasty thing.” He compared the situation to that of Diddy, who is currently facing serious legal troubles related to sex trafficking and racketeering.
The lawsuit in question involved an allegation from a Jane Doe, who accused both Jay-Z and Diddy of raping her following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards when she was only 13 years old. Although she has since withdrawn her case, she has maintained her story. Recently, Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, revealed audio in which Jane Doe allegedly admits that Jay-Z did not assault her, stating, “He was just there. He didn’t have anything to do with any sexual acts towards you?” She reportedly indicated that Buzbee influenced her decision to mention Jay-Z in her claims.
In response to the audio, Spiro asserted that Jane Doe’s admission proves the allegations against Jay-Z are unfounded. However, Buzbee has countered by claiming that the suggestion he pressured her into filing the lawsuit is “a blatant lie.”
