Wendy Williams is once again making headlines as her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, addresses recent statements made by the talk show icon regarding her living conditions and guardianship. In a statement released to TMZ, Morrissey’s attorney strongly refuted claims made by Williams, describing media reports about her situation as “untrue, inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading.”
Morrissey’s legal team emphasized that the guardianship was not initiated by Morrissey herself but was a judicial decision following Williams’ diagnosis of Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) in 2023. The court declared Williams legally incapacitated in August 2024, leading to the establishment of the guardianship.
A key point of contention revolves around Wendy’s access to her family. While Williams has expressed feeling restricted in her interactions with relatives, Morrissey’s attorney clarified that she is not prohibited from visiting or communicating with them. In fact, they noted that Wendy has traveled to Florida twice to reconnect with family members.
The portrayal of Williams’ living conditions has also sparked debate. Morrissey’s attorney asserted that Wendy receives “excellent medical care” at her assisted living facility, complete with spa treatments, fitness amenities, gourmet meals, and outdoor spaces. In stark contrast, Williams has described her stay as akin to being in a “prison,” raising questions about her actual quality of life.
This guardianship arrangement, which has been in place since 2022, has created ongoing tension. Although Williams’ legal team previously attempted to dissolve the guardianship, their efforts were unsuccessful. Wendy reportedly plans to challenge the guardianship once more.
Adding to the complexity, Williams recently underwent a cognitive evaluation, where she reportedly achieved high scores, suggesting her mental acuity may be better than previously perceived. However, her attorney did not address reports that she has sounded more like her former self in recent conversations.
On the financial side, Morrissey’s attorney revealed that the guardian has only received one payment of less than $30,000 and has largely worked without pay since 2022. The attorney expressed concern over misinformation permeating the media, stating it could potentially undermine the protective measures mandated by the court.
As the situation continues to unfold, it’s clear that differing perspectives on Wendy Williams’ well-being and living conditions persist, leaving fans and the public wondering about her future and the ongoing guardianship battle.
