Kanye West Admits He Hates ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’: ‘I Made It Out of Fear’

Kanye West has made headlines once again, this time revealing his disdain for what many consider his magnum opus, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The 2010 album, often hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time, does not hold the same regard in the eyes of the controversial rapper.

In a series of candid posts on X over the weekend, West stated, “I hate My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Like haaaaaaate that album.” He elaborated on his feelings, explaining that he created the album out of fear and a desire to prove himself following the infamous incident at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, where he interrupted Taylor Swift.

Kanye continued to express his preference for his 2016 album, The Life of Pablo, asserting, “The Life of Pablo is waaaay better than My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Go song for song.” While he acknowledged some standout tracks from Dark Fantasy, such as “Devil in a New Dress” and “Blame Game,” he emphasized his fondness for songs from his album Yeezus, including “On Site,” “Hold My Liquor,” and “Blood on the Leaves.”

This isn’t the first time West has downplayed the significance of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The album has been consistently ranked highly in various publications, including Rolling Stone, which placed it as the 17th greatest album of all time and the eighth best of the 21st century. In a separate outburst last month, Kanye even claimed, “Ye Album waaaay better than Dark Fantasy,” referring to his 2018 project, which is generally viewed as one of the weaker entries in his discography.

Fans, however, have not held back in their reactions to his comments. Many quickly defended My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, with one user stating, “Every Ye album is better than that trash,” while another insisted that he should “stop lying.” A poll conducted among fans showed overwhelming support for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, with over 78 percent voting it as the superior album.

As Kanye continues to express his opinions on his own work, the music community watches closely, eager to see how his perspective evolves and what it means for his future projects. With a legacy as complex as his music, West remains a polarizing figure in the industry, challenging both himself and his audience with every statement he makes.
