In a surprising move, legendary rapper Snoop Dogg has announced the upcoming release of a new gospel album titled “Altar Call.” This announcement comes just a few months after the release of his reunion album “Missionary” with Dr. Dre, showcasing Snoop’s versatility and commitment to exploring different musical genres.
The album, set to be released on April 27th, will be released through Snoop’s own label, Death Row Records. Fans can expect a 21-song tracklist featuring collaborations with renowned artists such as Jamie Foxx, Robert Glasper, Denaun Porter, Jazze Pha, Charlie Bereal, Jane Handcock, and October London, among others.
This gospel album holds a special significance for Snoop Dogg, as he has dedicated it to the memory of his late mother, Beverly Tate, who passed away in October 2021 at the age of 70. Snoop had previously shared a touching tribute to his mother, explaining that he went ahead with a performance in Boston on the same day she died, as he knew it was what she would have wanted.
“April 27, I’m dropping a gospel album on Death Row Records. It’s called Altar Call. You heard it first. A gospel album, April 27. God is good. Won’t he do it?” Snoop announced in a short video shared on his Instagram account.
This is not the first time Snoop has explored the gospel genre. In 2018, he released his debut gospel album, “Bible of Love,” which was well-received by fans and critics alike. With “Altar Call,” the veteran rapper is once again embracing his spiritual side and using his platform to share a message of faith and redemption.
The announcement of “Altar Call” has generated significant buzz among Snoop’s fanbase, who are eager to see the iconic artist’s take on the gospel genre. As the release date approaches, anticipation will continue to build, and fans will undoubtedly be interested to see how Snoop’s unique style and perspective will translate into this new musical venture.
