East Point Celebrates Hip-Hop Legend Rico Wade with Monument: A Tribute to a Cultural Icon!

In a powerful tribute to his lasting legacy, the city of East Point is set to unveil a monument honoring renowned hip-hop producer Rico Wade, a pivotal figure in shaping Southern hip-hop. This permanent installation will be located near Wade’s childhood home, a site integral to his artistic journey.

Rico Wade, who passed away in 2024 at the age of 52, was instrumental in launching the careers of iconic artists such as Outkast, Ludacris, and CeeLo Green. He was a key member of the Organized Noize production team and a leader of the Dungeon Family, known for crafting the distinctive “Dirty South” sound that has left an indelible mark on the music industry.

The monument will be positioned at the intersection of Delowe and Headland, close to where Wade’s childhood apartment complex once stood. This unveiling comes as a celebration of his influence and the rich musical history birthed from the “Dungeon,” the basement studio where Wade produced many of his hits.

Community leaders, artists, and loved ones will gather for the unveiling ceremony, highlighting the deep-rooted connection between East Point and Rico Wade’s profound impact on hip-hop culture. As East Point Mayor Deana Holiday Ingraham noted, this monument symbolizes the creative energy that flourished in the very place where Wade began his journey, inspiring generations of musicians worldwide.

The unveiling is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. at the Headland Shopping Center, with free admission for the public and parking available nearby. This monument will not only commemorate Wade’s contributions to music but also serve as a beacon of inspiration for future artists.
